Description of Services
Assistance Dog Assessment & Selection Services:
Consultation
Consultations are offered at no charge, and are conducted either by phone or in person, and take approximately one hour. Consultation slots are reserved for individuals who are seriously considering attaining a professionally trained Mental Health Assistance Dog, or having their own dog trained to become a Mental Health Assistance Dog through Heeling Allies. During the consultation we will determine if you meet the criteria for our program (i.e. living situation, level of functioning, ability to pay for costs associated with training and sufficient dog care); and what type of Assistance Dog would benefit you most, etcetera. You will also have the opportunity to ask us questions about our training program.
Preliminary Temperament/Behavioral Assessment
This test takes anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour to perform, and it is the first step in having a dog approved for our training program. Regardless of whether a dog is selected by Heeling Allies, or pre-owned -- we require that all dogs pass this test in order to be considered for our training program and progress to our extended evaluation.
Extended Behavioral Assessment & Aptitude Test
$350.00
* All dogs must first pass the preliminary temperament/behavior assessment prior to this test.
For this evaluation, dogs are boarded with Heeling Allies and undergo a rigorous five day evaluation with dog training and behavior specialist, Julie Forbes. This test helps us determine whether the dog being considered for training has a suitable temperament to be an Assistance Dog.
Assistance Dog Physical Soundness, Veterinary Exam
$80.00
All dogs must achieve a clean bill of health prior to being considered for our program. Physical soundness exams must be performed by a Heeling Allies approved veterinarian.
Assistance Dog Selection
Emotional Support Dog
$800.00
Mental Health Service Dog
$990.00
Selecting a dog with exactly the right qualities and characteristics of an Assistance Dog is the key enjoying a long-term, functional and therapeutic relationship between dog and handler.
Heeling Allies expert trainers carefully select
suitable shelter/rescue dogs to become Mental Health Service Dogs and Emotional Support
Dogs.
One
of our core philosophies is that rescue dogs make GREAT Assistance Dogs,
regardless of breed or size.
Unlike other Assistance Dog training programs, we believe that labs and
golden retrievers are not the only dogs that are capable of providing healing
companionship, and outstanding service to individuals in need.
* This
is a flat rate service which includes: selecting the appropriate
assistance dog for you, preliminary temperament test/behavioral
assessment, and extended behavioral assessment and aptitude test. (This process generally takes 2-6 weeks).
